![]() Probably be a good idea to check that the sensor has the latest drivers installed. The hardware accelerometer can be found in your Device Manager under the System Devices list and is currently called the HP Data Protection Sensor. The software runs in the background and only activates if the laptop is dropped or bumped hard which causes the accelerometer to send info to the software that parks the hard drive. There were no settings available there only version information and a description of what the software does. It did not serve much of a function anyway. The original version of Driveguard used to have an icon in the hidden icon folder in the notification area of the taskbar, this version does not. I have spent 5 days playing with this problem and getting the Creators update to function without draggiging and freezing at virus updates for Windows Defender and Microsofts Edge slow response. To verify if the software is loaded and running in the background open Task Manager and click on "More Details", you should see in the list that the Driveguard services are loaded and running in the background. I even went back to HP's driver site and tried to reinstall DriveGuard from the drivers page. On my system there is no icon in the system tray. Scroll down the list and you should see HP 3D Driveguard in the list. To verify the software is installed, go to your lists of installed apps by right clicking on your Start button then clicking on the "Apps and Features" link in the menu. The process is very quick and closes itself down. HP 3D DriveGuard protects the hard drive by 'parking the heads' if the notebook is accidentally dropped or is abruptly impacted by another object. When you click on the downloaded service pack where you saved it, Windows automatically opens and installer and asks permission to run it. This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. This occurs on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (RS3) each time the computer is started. You could probably be ok to run the update yourself. The HP 3D DriveGuard software stops and displays a Compatibility Assistant message. A previous tech had removed the Driveguard software I had to stop the error message. I have a HP Smartfriends account and had the tech at HP take remote control of my system and had him run the update after I gave him the address of the update page. To be on the safe side it is probably best to delete your current version of Driveguard and rebooting before you install the updated version.
